Married: September 14, 1954, how do you know them: As comedy duo Stiller and Meara, the Brooklynites were regulars on The Ed Sullivan Show throughout the 1960s and ’70s. Afterward, he starred in Seinfeld and The King of Queens, while she took roles in Archie Bunker’s Place and Sex and the City. They’re parents to actors Amy and Ben Stiller.
They met in the early ’50s, Meara, a struggling actress, met with an agent, and came out of his office crying. Stiller, sitting in the waiting room for the next interview, discovered the agent had been hitting on her, and took Meara for a cup of coffee to comfort her. This exchange sealed the deal: STILLER: Can I pick up the check? MEARA: Forget the check. Pick up some silverware, stick it in your pocket, and let’s get the hell out of here.
